For the first time in its 29 year history, the Fox Cities Marathon (FCM) was canceled. The September 22, 2019 event was canceled due to the threat of lightning and heavy rain.
“The most important thing for us is our participants,” said event spokesperson Amanda Secor. “Our job as an organization is to give them a platform to go after their goals. They’ve been training all summer. They’ve been counting on this. They’ve set goals. They had in their mind what they were going to be able to accomplish today. And it’s an honor to be a part of that and we’re disappointed that we couldn’t give them an opportunity to do that. We feel for them because their celebration at the finish line is our celebration, because that’s what our day and our race is all about.”
While race medical director Dr. Mark Westfall’s day – like everyone’s day at FCM – turned out much different than expected, we encourage you to read the article honoring his efforts leading the medical team at Fox Cities and his history of healthcare innovations.
